“CK” Friedlander commenced practise in 1932 and in 1951 joined the firm then known as Shore Kleinman & Shandling. In 1951 the original partners commenced practising together under their joint names as CK Friedlander Kleinman & Shandling.

The founding partners were general legal practitioners.

The firm grew into one of the best known law firms in Cape Town, gaining expertise in various fields of law. In 1992 the firm once again changed its name, this time to CK Friedlander Shandling & Volks and in 1997 it became an incorporated practice, CK Friedlander Shandling Volks Inc.
