The firm was founded 75 years ago by Mr. C.K. Friedlander who was admitted as an attorney in 1932. In 1951 he joined a practice previously known as Shore Kleinman & Shandling and after the two firms merged, the practice was renamed CK Friedlander Kleinman & Shandling.

Over the next few years CK Friedlander Kleinman & Shandling grew into one of the best known law firms in Cape Town, gaining expertise in various fields of law. In 1992 the firm once again changed its name, this time to CK Friedlander Shandling & Volks and in 1997 it became an incorporated practice, CK Friedlander Shandling Volks Inc.
